Info about our experiences in China so far: Info # 1
1. Please keep in mind anything we say for the rest of the time we are in China: we are not complaining about our situation – we are just stating or describing how it really is. Sometimes pictures can be deceiving and make something look like it is better than it really is. JJ By traveling a lot in the states or in foreign countries, we have learned that when you leave home, nothing is really going to be like home. FLEXIBILITY is the Key. We are very grateful the father has given us this opportunity.

2. Facebook postings and pics, etc. are immediately rec’d and sent, but our embarq emails are getting delayed both ways for some reason. It may be as much as 10 – 12 hours later or more when you get an email from us or we get yours.
3. From the time we left Pal. on Sat. 2-14 it took us 32 hours of either airtime or layovers to get to Beijing on Sun 2-15. Then on Mon. we flew from Beijing to Dalian (population of Dalian is 6 ½ million), where we are living. We were very thankful that we arrived safely and also our luggage.
4. A teacher and some Chinese employees of the univ. met us at the airport and took us to our apt. on the 1st floor of a 5 story high bldg., built about 30-40 years ago. Our apt. is larger than I thought it would be. We even have a 2nd smaller bedroom (anyone want to come & visit??). It was very dirty when we arrived (and still is) and there is a lot of visible mold and mildew. We are working on getting it cleaned, but have a long way to go. The washing machine is in the bathroom and water goes all over the floor when the wash. machine drains. The shower floor is not level so water never drains out on one side, therefore the mildew and mold are there. The kitchen is VERY tiny. I was really disappointed in this part, b/c I really like to cook and invite people over, but you will not believe how inexpensive restaurant food is here. The 1st night we went to a Chinese food restaurant (they have Korean, Russian and Pizza Hut only to name a few) and 4 people ate for $74.00 RMB = $11.00 USD. We also took part of the food home and ate it the next day. Can you believe that?? We had sweet’n’sour chicken, fried pumpkin and a shrimp & steamed spinach dish. All was delicious !! In fact I haven’t really had anything that I didn’t like. I like all kinds of different (some would say weird) food.
5. We are able to get very hot water from our small hot water heater. In addition to the radiators we also have heat/AC units high on the wall. We did not expect this addt’l heat and A/C. It has not been over a high of about 30 degrees since we have been here (you probably saw in the pictures that it snowed (Tue.)They rarely have snow. This delayed us a little in getting to take pictures to send to you. ***To be cont’d on Info # 2***
